A design system consists of a collection of reusable components, guides and styling that can be assembled together to build applications. Having a design system in place creates consistency, efficiency and scalability when it comes to designing and developing. When I joined Whatis there wasn’t a solid design system in place which resulted in having to look at old design files to try and find the correct text, colours and components. This resulted in time being wasted searching for elements rather than designing alongside inconsistent designs being created. I therefore took on the monstrous task of creating Whatis’ design system and also wrote about the importance of having a solid design system in place which can be read here.
